Kibon, a beloved brand among Rio residents, has been sponsoring the cable car at Favela do Alemão since 2012. In 2014, they aimed to draw attention to this sponsorship and uplift the community by organizing an art exhibition in the area. The 1st Aerial Exhibition at Favela do Alemão centered around the theme of happiness, with art pieces displayed on the rooftops of houses on the hill. The project involved contemporary artists receiving support from local residents to create this unique and impactful event.
Happiness, Community, Sustainability, and Creativity were the core themes of the exhibition. By blending typography with textures, the visual identity was developed using elements unique to the favela. The typography choice conveyed energy and vitality, while the textures reflected the materials and environments found in the favela. The result was a captivating aesthetic that captured the essence of the favela and conveyed the exhibition’s pillars. The design highlighted the importance and beauty of urban community culture.
By taking art to the roofs of the favela, we created a new landmark that showcased the creativity and vibrancy of the community. This project was not only a celebration of the community’s talent but also a way to promote Kibon’s commitment to supporting the people of Rio. Overall, the 1st Aerial Exhibition at Favela do Alemão was a huge success, leaving a lasting impression on both residents and visitors alike.
